The Twenty Ten theme was one of our favorites for it’s CSS flexibility.  However I think we have fallen in love with the new Twenty Eleven WordPress theme.  If you know CSS then this theme is for you.  It features CSS gradient menu backgrounds – very cool!  You can control and change every feature of the blog through the extremely well organized style sheet.  Other features include a showcase page to highlight your best content and a custom “Ephemera” widget to display your Aside, Link, Quote, or Status posts.  On the downside it doesn’t come with very many widget “extras” like social media or SEO but you can easily download a plugin to add that functionality to this theme.

Feature List:

  • Light or dark color scheme
  • Custom header images
  • Custom link colors
  • Custom menus
  • Three layout choices
  • Showcase page template that transforms your front page into a showcase to show off your best content
  • Widget support galore (sidebar, three footer areas, and a Showcase page widget area)
  • Custom “Ephemera” widget to display your Aside, Link, Quote, or Status posts
  • Print styles
  • Featured images
  • Organized, accessible style sheet

WordPress Theme Review – Ari

Ari is a minimalistic, flexible three-column blog theme. The theme makes use of CSS3 media queries for its flexible layout and is optimized for tablet pcs and smart phones (the theme switches to a two-column layout when viewed on a horizontal iPad screen, and to a one-column layout on iPhones). You can also choose a dark color scheme and the background-, text- and link-colors can be customized in the theme options page.

Key WordPress Theme Features:

  • This theme is great for the more technical savvy user, because it allows for easy customization.
  • Social Media icons built in.
  • Custom logo area.
  • Custom background, text and link color settings.
  • Supports WordPress custom menu system.

Platform is a breath of fresh air when it comes to WordPress themes – clean simple and lot’s of open space. Platform is one of several slick themes from PageLines. Platform has both a free version and a “pro” paid version with more goodies. The free version has ample tools and is easy to customize. However you do not have access to the css files so being a “techy” doesn’t allow you an additional perks.

Free version features include:

  • Custom logo upload
  • Custom favicon upload
  • Custom body and background colors
  • Custom text colors
  • Twitter account linking (plugin “Twitter for WordPress” is required)
  • Layout flexibility – choose from several layout options
  • Post and Page layout flexibility – choose from several format options for your pages and posts
  • Social Media share icons at the bottom of all posts
  • WordPress custom menus
  • Traditional widget options
